Compromís proposes to narrow down areas and schedules to avoid "pyrotechnic vandalism" in Fallas
They believe a great pact is necessary to pacify the party and make it compatible for all sectors.
The Compromís group in the City Council of Valencia has proposed this Monday that during the development of the Fallas and the days prior to these celebrations, areas and schedules without firecrackers be enabled in the city to stop the "pyrotechnic vandalism" and improve coexistence. Likewise, the political coalition has urged to recover spaces for dialogue and consensus with the neighbours, to strengthen the participation of the Falla world and to promote culture and Valencian in the Falla festivals.
Compromís has raised these issues during the meeting that the councillors of this formation have held with the media on the occasion of the Fallas. His spokesman in the consistory, Papi Robles, and the mayor of the party Pere Fuset have urged to make a "reflection" on these issues and have advocated for addressing and promoting "everything that is done in Fallas" from "dialogue" and "consensus."
Thus, he considered that this party needs "planning" and "concrete measures to face some of the challenges that are already perceived in the streets." Robles has assured that the Fallas are "much more than a punctual celebration." "For us they are identity, culture, economy and coexistence. Precisely because we love the party, we believe that we must take care of it and manage it well, so that it can grow without losing its soul and without breaking the coexistence with the city," he said.
Steps back
The representative of Compromís has considered that in recent months "steps are being taken back in terms of coexistence" and has criticised the mayor of the Valencian capital, María José Catalá (PP) although "when the Fallas end she always says the same thing, that things will change so that everything works," then "close the door and do not do it." "The Fallas cannot become a fight between falleros and neighbours. The vast majority of falleros do things right and comply with the rules. What it has to do is to manage the party well and dialogue, not to feed conflicts," said Papi Robles.
Regarding the areas and schedules free of pyrotechnics that Compromís proposes to combat what it considers "pyrotechnic vandalism", its spokesman has remarked that "it is necessary to differentiate between the pyrotechnic tradition of the Fallas and the uncivil behaviours that have spread in some parts of the city" linked to the improper use of pyrotechnics.
"The 'mascletaes' and castles are pyrotechnic art. Launching rockets out of time and place is an act of incivism that has nothing to do with either the Fallas or the commissions. If you hear a rocket in a park at 4:00 am, it is not a fallero, but an uncivilian," he said.
Compromís has proposed to "clearly" signalle zones and time slots where pyrotechnics cannot be used. "We have to organise the party better. Anyone who wants to shoot firecrackers must know where they can do it and where they can't," Robles said, as did Fuset.
A great pact
These councillors have defended the need to promote "a great pact between the City Council, the pyrotechnic sector, the Falla world and neighbourhood representatives to establish clear regulations known to all" in this area.
In that line, they have criticised that the members of the local executive, PP and Vox, have announced "hard hand against incivism," but "without applying effective measures." "Catalá always announces a tough hand when the holidays are over. The question is very simple: will he do something this year or will we hear promises again that are not fulfilled later?" Robles said.
Pere Fuset has insisted on the need to open decision-making to the whole Falla world. "The Fallas are too large and diverse for important decisions to be made only in offices. We propose to promote consultations with the 'one person, one vote' system, so that the falleros can participate directly in key issues of the party," he explained.
World Heritage Site
Fuset has invited to recover the World Heritage Commission "that PP and Vox eliminated," in addition to urging to promote "the role of musical societies" "Las Fallas are not just party and noise. They are popular Valencian culture and we must favour it," said the councillor, who has also urged to strengthen the presence of the Valencian at the party.
"The Fallas must speak in Valencian because it is the language of the party. That's why we propose to promote Valencian music in the megaphone of the 'mascletaes' and recover the Fallas concerts that Catalá has eliminated," he said.
Compromís has opted to continue "advancing in equality, diversity and sustainability within the party" of Falla. In this sense, he has urged to maintain parity in the Fallas juries, recover the Dones de la Festa awards, encourage the farmhouses to be safe and inclusive spaces, and help artists and commissions that opt for more ecological materials.
