Two Men Shot Over Fireworks

RALEIGH - According to the Raleigh Police Department, two men in Raleigh were shot during an argument that started because one man was shooting off fireworks in the street.

On Thursday morning at around 2:00am, Raleigh Police say that at 208 Chamberlain Street, Mark Irwin, age 22, was shooting off fireworks in the street in front of his house along with some other people watching the display.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says that when neighbor Christopher Barber, age 24, complained to Irwin about the fireworks going off that the situation turned into an argument.

"The verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation," said Sughrue.

According to police reports, Irwin went back into his house and got his shotgun and came back outside.

Police say that around the same time, Barber's brother John Kenney Jr., age 28, also joined in the altercation.

"A short time later, Irwin discharged the shotgun at Kennedy, striking him in his right leg," said Sughrue in a released statement. "Barber then attempted to go to Kennedy and Irwin fired at him, striking him in the pelvis."

Police say that both men were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

When officers arrived, they took Irwin into custody without incident said police. He has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. ::
