About the Festival
The Mayor's Thames Festival is a spectacular, free, outdoor celebration for London - the world’s most exciting multi-cultural city.
Launched in 1997 with an amazing high wire walk across the Thames, the festival has grown to become the capital’s largest free, open-air arts festival. In 2005, over 470,000 people attended the festival weekend.
Thames Festival commissions high-profile, cutting-edge arts events for unique environments on and around the river. It also showcases the best in street arts, with pyrotechnics, illuminations, art installations, river events, street theatre, massed choirs, circus and music. Tens of thousands dance in the streets at the festival's climactic event, a spectacular Night Carnival that's a vivid mixture of masquerade, dance, music and fantastic costumes.
The festival takes place right in the heart of London between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge on the River Thames, on the river banks and on the adjacent riverside walkways and public open spaces.

Fireworks
Every year, tens of thousands of people thrill to the sights and sounds of the extraordinary mid-river fireworks display that marks the end of the Thames Festival. In 2005, the display was created by Britain’s top pyrotechnic company Fantastic Fireworks.
In previous years, France’s amazing Groupe F (they now provide London’s New Year pyrotechnics) have delivered some outstanding fireworks displays on the Thames. The fireworks are scheduled to fire from a barge positioned mid-stream in the River Thames between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges. We currently expect the 2006 fireworks display to start at 9.45pm on Sunday 17 September. The fireworks finale is part-funded by The Mayor of London.
We are actively seeking a sponsor to complete the funding package - find out more about the festival’s sponsorship opportunities.
