Two competitive evenings of spectacular Maltese & International PyroMusical Displays at the Grand Harbour, Valletta.

Following the tremendous success of four consecutive editions of Fireworks Festivals, the Ministry for Tourism and Culture in collaboration with the Malta Pyrotechnic Association are proud to present the first edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival.

Three Maltese fireworks factories and two foreign companies will be competing for various trophies and cash prizes by their presentation of pyro-musical displays. Apart from these displays, throughout the two festival nights seven local fireworks factories will also be demonstrating their abilities in the field of traditional Maltese fireworks. All this through the accompaniment of playful laser displays.

As the festival is timed to coincide with the 2nd anniversary of Malta’s entry into the European Union the European as well as the Maltese national anthems will be played at midnight of Sunday, April 30th. This will be immediately followed by a spectacular Pyro-musical display designed and manufactured by Orzella Fireworks Company of Rome.

All this will take place in Grand Harbour which offers the most ideal location and what is probably one of the most breath-taking views of the island, encompassing forts St Angelo, Ricasoli and St. Elmo, as well as the fortified walls of Valletta and Senglea.

An international adjudicating panel will be voting for the best pyrotechnic display. The attending spectators will have also the chance to cast their vote for the best display by sms'ing via their mobile phones. The presentation of the prizes will take place on May 1st at a venue to be announced.

Just to correct the information about the St. Mary Fireworks Factory Mqabba - MALTA as on the information given it is said that our festa is 13-15 August but in reality its is 09-15 August. Its not Tony's fault. The fault is of who wrote the information for the Malta Minsitry for Tourism.
Thank You

Yes the show is there aswell. Which is the Holel? There is a small Holtel called British Hotel that is facing the Harbour where the display will be. But from the hotel Im not sure if you will hear the music. Its better to be in the crowd.

The first hotel (St.Julians is not at all close to the show). For the show its better you choose the second one. Only a little walk away from the show.

Enjoy your stay :w

International Fireworks Festival launched
by Dorian Cassar, di-ve news

VALLETTA, Malta (di-ve news) -- April 05, 2006 -- 1655CEST -- Minister Francis Zammit Dimech launched the International Fireworks Festival at a press conference at the Valletta Waterfront on Wednesday. The Festival will be held on April 29 and April 30 and will also commemorate the second anniversary from Malta's entry to the European Union.

"This year would have been the fifth annual Fireworks Festival but this year, the Festival would also include pyrotechnic work from foreign countries", said the Minister. It aims at serving as a major tourist attraction and as a teaser to the Maltese traditional summer festa.

Zammit Dimech said that for the coming six years, Malta will be benefiting from over 800 million Euros for modernisation and economic stability. He insisted that these funds should reason out celebrations for the second anniversary from Malta's membership in the EU.

The festival is organised by the Events Team of the Malta Tourism Authority, the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, and the Maltese Council for Culture and Art.

That is just the thing that I dont like about this festival. It became a political propoganda. Everything has to be politicalized in Malta.

Personaly I dont see how the festival has anything to do with Malta joining the EU. When the festival started, Malta was still outside of the EU for 3 whole years. So why is it all of a sudden a celebration of EU membership for the second year running!?! |:(

This event started with the sole intention of being a promotion to the Maltese fireworks tradition and the summer FESTAS. 4 years later its a political thing, and another year later its still insisting about being political. Were do the Village Feasts come in?

ehhhh....politics....the devil in disguise....

cheers.
