It's time to start thinking about lighting up the sky in 2007, and the American Legion is taking up that challenge.

The Sons of the American Legion, part of the nonprofit American Legion Squadron 474 based in Princeton, will hold a fund-raiser Saturday, Sept. 16, to assure there is money for a fireworks show next year.

The fund-raiser starts at noon and goes "until it's done," said post Commander Russell Bissonnette. Expect food from about a dozen Coastside restaurants, live entertainment and lots of energy.

"We're trying to do a bigger and better fireworks show on the Coastside than was ever done before," declared Bissonnette.

The live music will be provided by rocker and headliner T.J. Moore, the Brother Nefarious band and songwriter Howard Lieberman.

Local restaurants that will donate food include Ketch Joanne, Rogue Chefs, Mezza Luna, Princeton Seafood Company, the House of Prime Rib, the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, Half Moon Bay Inn, Café Gibraltar, It's Italia, Cetrella Bistro and Café, Sam's Chowder House and Red Ginger.

And the legion's Women's Auxiliary is planning a raffle and a silent auction of items such as a stainless steel barbecue grill and gift certificates for spas or meals at local eateries.

"The community seems full of support and ready to help," said Bissonnette.

That is good, given the legion's goal of raising $50,000, which will cover the 2007 fireworks show and provide seed money for the fireworks show of 2008.

"We kinda need help," Bissonnette said.

Several Legion members have already dipped into their pockets, putting down $600 so far to cover event expenses such as a Web site, signs and posters, he said.

He said he wants the public to be very aware of the fund-raising process. "We're trying to make this as visible to the community, and clear as possible," he said.
