I remember people saying that for the Ruzafa Mascleta last year ..... and how the tecs tried to protect those tubes from the rain by plastic cover. Spanish pyrotecs are just spoiled with the good weather and lack of rain most of the time! But you would think they would be base their material they're going to use on the weather forecast.

Talking of ... today it's very windy! Fingers crossed!

It's possible to make them survive a few hours of torrential rain. This one in my home town did fine.
But it took some time to convince the Spanish pyrotechnicians that it was needed to do it this way ^^
 
I've seen (a few guys from) Ricasa also cover off a mascletà nocturna on quite a rainy day. They had luck in that they had dry conditions when setting it up/building it, but after that they "bundled" in a certain way, put plastic over it (for the rain that was coming), and when the moment came they had to fire it, it only costed them something like 10 minutes to get it "up and running".

It's a bit difficult to completely explain how they did it, unless I would make a schematic drawing in (Microsoft) Paint, and I feel too lazy today to do that! ?

I always love photos (and videos) taken from the press-platform on the roof Ayuntamiento. I was lucky enough to be able to experience a mascletà once from there, even though I didn't had the proper accreditation!
Long story short: there was a special "fallas ambassador program" from the JCF, which I/we were part of. That program also gave everyone a JCF accreditation to, for example, enter the monuments of the Seccion Escpecial for free, and some other things. It wasn't of the same level as an official press-accreditation.
3 of the other 'ambassadors', all Valencian girls/women had the idea to go and watch the mascletà from the press platform and convinced me to go with them. We didn't know for sure if the passes would allow us acces to that, we weren't told it wouldn't. In the end all 3 landed in discussions with the police at the rear of the cityhall and even though we got denied first (and I did not feel comfortable to keep trying), they kept on talking and trying (that is why the part of them being Spanish/Valencian is important, hehehe!) and eventually they managed to "convince" the police and they talked us in and were able to watch it from there!

Also had the opportunity (although this time it was 'legal'!) to watch a mascletà nocturna from the balcony (where the FMV and CdH normally stand) of cityhall. That also was an amazing experience.

Unfortunately the whole 'ambassador-project' died out eventually (we heard this year), because of new people on several departments of the JCF, which didn't continue the program.

This was was really amazing and i am very happy for Maria Jose that this mascleta had no real problems like the years before (Rain, Winds etc).
I have seen the videos of the mascleta already 4 or 5 times. She did really a good job!

A shame :( But I think the city is doesn't feel the need anymore since Fallas is an UNESCO heritage. This year it's much more strict with accreditation for some and for some others it's not. I wish they would have a more streamlined and fair process!
 
Sorry voor de lange pauze - maar ik moest mezelf uitzoeken na Fallas. Nog steeds op 4 maart, maar dat betekent dat er nog een aantal geweldige vuurwerkvideo's van Fallas 2023 komen.
