Hi everybody,
For starters, I will write this post in English so the owner of the shop I am going to discuss can actually read the content (@ mods, let me know if this is not ok and I will write a Dutch translation).
I just got back from our honeymoon to Thailand and Bali. Our trip brought us to many tropical paradises, Koh Samui being one of them.
While we were on the island, we visited an old friend who wo got to know on our previous trip there, in 2009. Alan is the owner of a fireworks shop which sells consumer fireworks (shells op to 6", Thai laws have a slightly different definition of 'consumer' fireworks) and does shows around the island as well.
The first night we spent was actually my birthday and as a surprise my wife and Alan arranged a little birthday party for me. We had authentic Thai dinner with Alan's Thai family (his wife is Thai) on a very quiet tropical beach. Needless to say, it was absolutely lovely. On the downside, that day was the last day of a royal funeral in Thailand and we were not allowed to shoot any fireworks that night.
Luckily Alan was doing a show the next day, a couple of Australians was getting married and the resort hired alan to do a little show for them (15000 thb, which is about €375,-) We got together at his shop at 16:00, just in time to see them do the packing of the contents of the show. Next we stepped into the back of his pick up truck and drove to a beach on the other side of the island. We helped him and his team digging holes and setting the whole thing up, which was great. Walking around with shells, mortars and flower beds during your holiday is always great! After everything was set up and rigged, we just lie down in the sand and enjoy the show.
After the show, I really wanted to shoot some stuff myself as well of course. So we drove back to his shop, which was quickly being opened up for us, and bought some 5" and 6" shells at a very reasonable price. We drove to a beach close by and shot them off. The were absolutely magnificent. To shoot that size gives an amazing adrenaline rush, I can ensure you!
Afterwards we had dinner together with him and his team and said our goodbyes.
I would definitely recommend every member of this forum to visit Alan and his shop whenever you end up in Thailand. Beside the fireworks he is just a great guy who makes it an even nicer experience. And besides... mebers of this forum get a free Fireworks Shop T-shirt!!
Finally some links to their site and to a movie of our (Sp@cem@n and me) visit in 2009:
