Queens, chefs, musicians, a juggler, a magician, dignitaries and a whole bunch of volunteers come together this weekend to raise a little money for the annual Bay City Fireworks Festival telethon.

There also are a whole bunch of pretty cool items to bid on via telephone.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday and runs for at least 33 hours. Sometimes we run late,'' said Doug Clark, president of the festival.

No matter how long it takes, there are some pretty good reasons to tune in, event organizers said.

This year, Chef Andy Bacigalupo, commercial food instructor at the Bay Arenac ISD Career Center, will be on hand with students from the Blooming Chef restaurant at the center doing food demonstrations on Saturday afternoon.

The first ever Bay City Fireworks queen and her court also will be on hand, as well as other pageant winners from around Bay County.

And, if that isn't enough, Brad Golder, director of broadcasting media relations for the Great Lakes Loons, will be discussing the Loons' upcoming inaugural season. He also is donating four grass passes to a Loons game for the auction.

Musical acts include a few returning favorites, such as blues artist Larry McCray, magician and juggler Joel Tacey, the Harbor Sounds Chorus and Danny Van doing his Elvis show.

Van, also known as Dan Van Pelt, and his wife Linda also have donated a weekend at their bed and breakfast, Angel's Lair, for the auction.
