Youngsters have been warned to behave during Halloween and bonfire night or risk a rocket from police.

A police spokesman said people should enjoy the occasions but have consideration for those who are not so keen on the celebrations.

Each year police get complaints about pranks going too far, such as eggs and flower being thrown at properties, and residents, particularly the elderly, feeling intimidated by large groups of noisy trick-or-treaters knocking on their door.

More complaints come around bonfire night when children let off fireworks in the street, putting themselves and motorists in danger and causing alarm for residents and pets.

Community safety officer Sgt Dave Layton said: "We don't want to spoil anyone's fun but just ensure Halloween and bonfire night are enjoyable evenings for everyone."

Anyone concerned about the way fireworks are being sold can contact police, in confidence, on 01234 841212 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
